Kenny Rogers was quite a unique singer who successfully bridged the gap between pop and country. For some, he was a country singer who appealed to people who didn't necessarily like country music. He was the first country singer I appreciated when I was growing up.
My favourite Kenny Rogers song was, and still is, "The Gambler." As Rogers himself once said, the song's lyrics make a great metaphor for life.
My other favs are "Lucille," "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," "Coward of the County," "Just Dropped In" and even the sappy "Through the Years." They are great stories told in song. His delivery on those songs was perfect.
